The solution was to give her two implants to support a porcelain bridge, giving her back her freedom to eat foods that she had missed out on for many years.

About the Treatments that Replaced a Denture with Dental Implants

The patient was very unhappy with her denture and wanted something that would give her greater comfort while eating that was more permanent and looked natural.

With the teeth roots completely missing, the treatment option of using dental implants as part of a replacement solution was identified as a possibility. X-rays and an assessment of overall mouth and dental health confirmed that the patient would be able to support this approach.

The choice of porcelain for the bridge was a cosmetic decision the patient made after being shown the options and discussion about the hygiene routines of each of the alternatives.

Dental Implants

Having dental implants is a surgical procedure that does frighten some patients. In this case, the patient wanted a more permanent solution for their discomfort and reduced quality of life so willingly underwent the surgery to implant structures for supporting a bridge.

There is a significant recovery period of 3 to 6 months after the implants are placed to ensure the natural bonding process with the jawbone happens and gives you a strong structure for fitting a bridge or artificial teeth.

Porcelain Bridge

The patient chose to have a porcelain bridge created and fitted because of it’s similarity in appearance to natural teeth.

While the implants were bonding and the healing process was allowed to complete, the patient was given a temporary bridge. This temporary bridge was then replaced with the final porcelain bridge that had been specially crafted and coloured matched for the patient.
